2. Direct question to Stuart Gitlow (ASAM president):

I do sign this question with my name: Why you people proclaim to be: “The Voice of Addiction Medicine.”? –http://wp.me/p4UVo9-FU

3. Response by Stuart Gitlow:

“ASAM has the only delegation focused on the medical specialty of addiction medicine within the federation of medicine. It is the largest group of physicians specializing in the field of addiction in the world. It builds policy and positions through a democratic process involving any member who is interested in participating in the process. As such, ASAM’s voice represents its membership and therefore is the voice of the field of addiction medicine.”

4. What about evidence?

I am going to say this with just a whispering sound (if there is any sound at all here in this post — maybe just the noise of typewriting this message on my computer keyboard — )

ASAM says their organization is “The voice of addiction medicine” and they are right,
But it’s also not evidence-based and relies mostly on pseudoscientific statements,
I have no problem that ASAM thinks they are “The voice of addiction medicine”,
Please ASAM keep the volume of your voice as loud as you think it is, please scream your statements everywhere, every time… … cheers!
