Some thoughts about having a Ph.D academic degree in Colombia:

A Ph.D is not a synonymous of good quality of research (it’s neither a prerequisite).

Why the need to graduate more Ph.Ds in Colombia when there are not enough jobs for them in the country?

– I’m on the tenure-track, I do not have any labor stability at 36 yo and a Ph.D degree obtained 2 years ago.

– Research is not a current priority for Colombian Universities (public and private).

– Education is not even of good quality.

– Higher education in Colombia is focus on marketing strategies aimed to sell a poor quality of higher education at different Universities (public and private) as well as other academic institutions often called as “Universidades de Garaje” (Translation: Garage Universities) widely spread across the country, operating with minimum requirements and very little regulation by governmental authorities at national and regional levels.
